Teresa Fasciana is a highly skilled researcher in the field of clinical microbiology at the University of Palermo. With a solid background in biology, she has gained extensive experience in clinical microbiology, a field in which she has stood out for her dedication to scientific research and innovation. In addition to her expertise in advanced microbiological techniques, since 2006, Teresa has been actively collaborating with the Regional Reference Center for Legionellosis Surveillance, contributing her expertise to the monitoring and management of Legionella-related health risks. In February 2024, she assumed the role of head of the center.
Teresa is also an integral member of the technical committee for the control of Legionellosis in the Sicilian region. In this role, she participates in shaping strategies and guidelines aimed at preventing the spread of Legionella, offering valuable insights based on her extensive research and experience in microbiology.
Her work includes studies on Legionella pneumophila and multi-drug resistant Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. One of the most innovative aspects of Teresa’s research lies in exploring natural components and their potential antibiofilm actions. Her research focuses on identifying natural molecules capable of disrupting biofilm formation and persistence, which could significantly improve treatments for chronic and hard-to-treat infections.
